FORCE OF AWSWORTH
CALL IT A DAY
Awsworth Villa
Secretary has expressed the gratitude of everyone associated
with the progressive NSL club following the resignation of
long serving officials Alan and Stephanie Evans this week.
Alan, who had been
Chairman for ten years, and wife Stephanie, who filled the
post of Treasurer, have reluctantly stepped aside in the
wake of a number of family problems, however Wilkinson says
the Shilo Park outfit has benefited massively from the work
the duo have put in behind the scenes.
'Under Alan's
leadership, we have come through some tough times and are
now looking forward to the future with relish. The
commitment Alan and Stephanie have shown to Awsworth Villa
has been amazing and they really have inspired us all.
Unfortunately, their personal situation has become too
difficult and they have decided to stand down. On behalf of
all associated with Awsworth, I'd like to thank the for all
their efforts and wish them all the very best for the
future'.
Wilkinson will take
over the chair for now, with anyone wishing to be considered
for either post asked to contact him on 07792 764408.

| MANAGEMENT
SHAKE-UP FOR REP SIDE
Andy Benner and Dave
Bradshaw have been appointed as Joint Managers of the
Precision Training NSL's representative team for the 2006/07
season
Benner, who has been
loyal to Wollaton by staying after the exit of co- boss Chris
Munroe to CML side Radford, is to link up with Bradshaw, who
guided Linby to runners up spot in the first NSL season and
finished the last campaign as one of the form sides after
suffering some wretched luck with injuries early on.
Commenting on the appointments, NSL spokesman Dick Durrant was
optimistic 'We have had some great games with the rep side in
the first two seasons and would like to take it to the next
level. Andy and Dave both have excellent pedigrees and we have
asked them to come back to us with a plan as to how they see
the season developing. I am sure we will play our traditional
charity games against the NAA and MAA, plus the CML also
indicated they'd be keen for another game. Andy and Dave can
shape their own programme within reason and we look forward to
working with them to take the side forward'
The NSL have also
approached the NAA about a merger which they see as the way
forward for the local game. Durrant said 'Our Chairman Frank
Hunt has written to the NAA's top guys and I've sent an e mail
to Alec Thompson to see if they'd like to merge with the NSL
to form a bigger, better league. So far we haven't had a
response, but hope we can sit down sometime soon with them. We
would like to have a third division very soon, and, with
plenty of interest being shown in the NSL by clubs from the
NAA (and MAA for that matter), we feel the best way forward is
to merge. The NAA don't seem keen for now, but we think that
the move makes perfect sense. If the leading clubs from other
leagues come to us one at a time, as is happening now, this
will weaken their leagues. Getting together to have say five
divisions will leave all clubs knowing exactly where they are
in the structure and give them something to aim for,
particularly when we get our top division into Step 7 of the
non league Pyramid. There are two sound committees duplicating
work left right and centre and this makes no sense to me.
We've all seen how successful such a system has been in Notts
cricket and hope we can be instrumental in bringing about such
a change in football too. We've asked the NAA to discuss it
and get back to us and hope to meet with them soon. We are
convinced this is the right thing to do for Notts football and
look forward to the day when it happens! We will keep knocking
at the door until it opens and hope this is very soon indeed.'

LINBY
CELEBRATING SIXTY YEARS
Linby CW are gearing
up for their 60th anniversary of their reformation. One of the
events planned is a friendly match between a LInby
"past" XI versus a Linby "present" XI. The
game takes place at church lane on August 19th, 3pm KO.
On formation in 1946 Linby went on to dominate local amateur
football, in the 1950s,under the guidance of ex Arsenal player
Ernest "tim" Coleman. Two Notts Alliance titles, a
Central Alliance title, six consecutive Nottinghamshire Senior
Cup finals, with three wins and three defeats.
Amazingly Linby's first Notts Senior Cup final at Nottingham
Forest's City Ground attracted a crowd of 21,670, all of which
seeing Linby beat Retford United 1-0.
Linby's greatest achievement under Coleman was in 1951 when
they reached the first round proper of the FA Cup. After seven
matches and six rounds of Qualifying. Linby took on Football
League side Gillingham eventually losing to the Division
Three South side 4-1, in front of 6,850 at the clubs old
Gatehouse Ground. Coleman eventually left Linby in 1956 to
manage Notts County. |

NEWCOMERS
EXPAND MANAGEMENT TEAM
League
newcomers Basford United have expanded their management team
with the signing of Nigel Bonham (pictured) and Peter Johnson
from Kimberley Miners Welfare FC. Club Manager Martin Soley
told the NSL website "We felt it necessary to expand our
management team at all levels. Dave Thompson, Robert
Palethorpe and John Clark did a marvellous job last year in
providing a solid structure to facilitate our move into the
NSL. These individuals will continue their terrific
contribution this season, however we felt it necessary to
expand the team due to the higher expectations of NSL
football."
Nigel
Bonham will be joint manager with Soley and Peter Johnson
taking up the role as head coach will assist with
coaching and tactics. "Nigel and Peter did a terrific job
last year with KMW Reserves guiding them to third place in
their first season. Nigel also knows most of the existing
playing staff due to his time as a Basford player. Both have
knowledge at NSL level, which will only benefit us next
season. We felt these are important attributes in building on
the success of last season." said Soley. |

The new sponsorship
deal which sees Precision Training replace Uhlsport as
sponsors for the Notts Senior League was unveiled at the
league's AGM which was held in the County Suite at Meadow
Lane
Precision Training is
a key brand for Lenton based Reydon Sports and will be given
major exposure as technical sponsor for Notts County. NSL

league as well as providing equipment for a local pro club?
We are delighted with the arrangement and with the support
Reydon continue to show to the NSL. Our league has come a
long way in two years and this would not have been possible
without the support of Dave Sanderson and Nigel Carter of
Reydon. We will always be grateful to them for the faith

Eastwood, widow of Pelican legend Dave, presented the
award to Gilmour who continues to be the driving force
behind Magdala despite not being far short of 80!

COUNTY
CUP REVIEW
- KEYWORTH RESERVES FLY
THE NSL FLAG
- KEYWORTH RESERVES FLY
THE NSL FLAG
A tough year
for Notts Senior League clubs in the Counties knockout
competition ended in delight for Keyworth United Reserves who
overcame fellow NSL First Division side Bestwood MW Reserves
in the final of the competitions Junior section cup. A two
goal victory helped by Woolwich & Hyman strikes either
side of half time at Carlton Town FC's ever improving Stoke
Lane Ground in front of a crowd of 222 was the only joy for
the 35 NSL clubs that had joined the competition.
Of the
Junior Section only two clubs made it past round two, recently
formed after a season without a side Bestwood Reserves and
Keyworth, who had to drop down a level in competition after a
first round exit the year previous, carried on to go all the
way disposing of NAA and CML sides en-route.
The
Intermediate Section was thought to provide NSL clubs with
their best chance of silverware, having won it last season
Arnold Southbank weren't to defend their trophy having
made the step up in to the Senior Section of the competition.
Bestwood MW were hoping to go one better than the year
previous having finished as runners up, they received a bye in
round one. In all only half the NSL sides that entered
progressed to the second round of the competition. The next
stage was slightly better with five of the eight teams
representing the Notts Senior League through to the third
round, four of which would face each other in that round
ensuring at least two NSL clubs would progress to the Quarter
Finals. Magdala Amateurs were beaten by Boots Athletic's
Reserve side 1-0 whilst Caribbean Cavaliers in their first
season representing the NSL in this competition edged out
league rivals and 2005 finalists Bestwood MW in a thrilling
game winning 5-4. In a game delayed to bad weather Awsworth
Villa were convincingly beaten by Radford Reserves 4-1 in the
new year. None of our sides were to better the Quarter Finals
though, Boots Athletic Reserves, winners in 2004 and semi
finalists a year a go were beaten by the competitions eventual
winners Basford United 3-0. Good news for the NSL however with
Basford joining the league for the 2006/07 season from the NAA,
a side that are likely to contribute in competition with a
strong side that demands silverware. Caribbean Cavaliers were
also beaten in the last eight by Santos 1-0, an impressive run
none the less.
The NSL
sides ambition's in the Senior Section were a little less
adventurous, with the competition including the counties
finest non league sides chance of winning the trophy would be
limited to say the least, but a Quarter Final finish would
ensure seeding for the competition next year, something which
Boots Athletic achieved a year a go.
In the First
round Attenborough, Calverton and Notts Police all fell to
Central Midlands opposition. Kimberley and Clifton (via
penalties) progressed at the expense of CML clubs whilst drawn
together were NSL Senior Division rivals Linby and Cotgrave,
who played out an entertain five goal thriller at Church Lane,
the away side edging through to round two, and Wollaton and
Arnold Southbank, who after ninety minutes and extra time
couldn't be separated, Wollaton winning the shootout after a
goalless two hours. Wollaton and Cotgrave CW United were both
beaten in their respective home draws with top CML
opposition, Gedling MW beating Wollaton 2-0 with Cotgrave
going down 3-1 to Southwell City. In another all NSL encounter
Clifton beat Kimberley 2-1 to progress to the next stage with
Boots Athletic who joined the competition's third round with
seven other seeded clubs.
With a new
format to help the counties top non league sides rid fixture
congestion, the competition would now be played under the
lights in midweek, Boots having to reverse their match with
Radcliffe Olympic to the away sides Wharf Lane ground,
Clifton, paired up with Unibond high flyers Eastwood Town had
to move their fixture up the road to Greenwood Meadows Dunkirk
ground. Both sides failing to profit from new surroundings,
Boots edged out 4-3 by Radcliffe whilst a day later, Clifton
were beaten by Eastwood 4-1, ending any interest for NSL sides
in a competition that was eventually won by Arnold Town. |

LEAGUE
CUP REVIEW - CLIFTON & BOOTS TAKE THE TROPHIES
The
Nottinghamshire Senior League's Reserve Section Cup got
underway in early Februarry with a preliminary match between
Arnold Southbank Reserves and Cotgrave CW United Reserves. A
3-0 win for the home side saw them into the first round where
they joined the fifteen other first division teams in the
competition and faced a tough encounter against last seasons
winners Attenborough Res. In round one, 2005 runners up
Calverton MW got off to a winning start 4-2 against Siemens
EWS. Fancied Boots went through at the expense of Notts Police
Res and league leaders Wollaton Res convincingly overwhelmed
Sandhurst Res 9-1 at their Sports Assosiation Ground. Clifton,
Awsworth & Kimberley all went through at the expense of
Magdala, Linby and Carribbean Cavaliers respectively, Bestwood
Reserves beat Keyworth Reserves 1-0 at Platt Lane in a match
delayed a week due to the weather, it wasn't until late March
that holders Attenborough could kick off their campaign with a
1-0 win over Arnold Southbank Reserves.
The
Senior Section's two Preliminary games saw both Arnold
Southbank and Cotgrave CW United go out at the first attempt.
Southbank were soundly beaten 3-0 by Kimberley and Cotgrave
lost at home in their local derby, 2-0 to Keyworth United.
Holders Wollaton were made to work in their first round match
with Notts Police, 1-1 after extra time they won 3-1 on
penalties to progress to the second round. Also winning on
penalties were Bestwood MW, they beat Calverton MW 4-2 in the
shootout after the game ended up 1-1. Ruddington pushed
confident Clifton into extra time, the all whites though too
strong in the late stages with United collapsing to eventually
lose 4-1. Linby & Attenborough were both 2-0 winners
against Kimberley and Sandhurst respectively, Boots beat
Magdala 5-2 whilst Keyworth progressed with a 3-2 win over
Awsworth and Caribbean Cavaliers edged Siemens in their five
goal thriller at Carrington.
The
Reserve Section Quarter Finals kicked off on the 8th April and
Awsworth Villa were biggest winners on the day, beating
Clifton Reserves 4-0 to reach the semi finals, Kimberley
reserves saw off Bestwood Reserves 2-1, Attenborough Reserves
beat Calverton 3-2 at Hollinwood Lane whilst the game of the
day paired up Champions Boots with laegue leaders Wollaton,
Boots winning 3-1 to get into the last four.
A week
later the Quarter Finals of the Senior Section Cup was played
with a mirror image of the Reserve game between Boots and
Wollaton taking place between the first teams, Boots Athletic
again coming on top, shocking the holders and double winners
Wollaton 2-1, meaning a new name would be on the trophy this
year. Attenborough beat Caribbean 2-0 to enhance their
chances, Clifton progressed with a 4-1 win over Bestwood to
become new favourites whilst Linby more than made up the last
four with a 4-1 win over Keyworth.
All Semi
Finals were played at the magnificent Cotgrave and Calverton
grounds, Boots Reserves the first to reach a final after
beating Kimberley MW Res 1-0, The Chemist's were joined by
Attenborough in the Reserve Section, hoping to hold on to the
trophy they won a year a go, Boro beat Awsworth in an exciting
semi 3-2. The Senior Section Cup Semi Finals were also tight
affairs, Clifton reaching their maiden NSL final with a
2-1 win over Linby CW, Attenborough joined their Reserves by
reaching a League Cup final, Boro beat Boots 2-0 to face
Clifton at Calverton MW on the 18th May.
The
Final of the Reserve Section was won thanks to a goal either
side of half time by Boots Athletic striker Ibby Arsali,
despite some late pressure from Boro, Boots deserved victory
and claimed their second piece of silverware in as many years.
Boro, unfortunate again in the Senior Section final, in a
tense encounter affected by some difficult weather, two goals
late on from Clifton playmaker Craig Anderson broke opposition
hearts, a free kick and a penalty after 84 minutes of goalless
football was the difference in the direction of which the
trophy went. |

DIVISION
ONE REVIEW - IT'S WOLLATON'S YEAR
Wollaton
Reserves emulated their first team by clinching the Division
One title with an end margin of five points. Wollaton’s
consistency was their strength as they held off any pressure
from the likes of Arnold Southbank, Boots Athletic and
Keyworth United.
The
season started with favourites and 2005 Champions Boots losing
their opening game against Linby Reserves 2-1. After openening
their account with a convincing win, last season’s third
placed side Wollaton were also in indifferent form, taking
four points from their first three games. Going well were
Calverton who headed the early table with three straight wins
before a 4-1 defeat to Boots knocked them off the top with
Arnold Southbank in sensational fashion, they won their first
five games scoring 24 goals, including a 7-1 win against
Cotgrave and a 7-2 win over Kimberley.
At
the other end of the table, Sandhurst Reserves and Siemens
Reserves were doing their worst to foot the bottom of the
ladder, both losing their first ten games. Sandhurst on the
end of some heavier hammerings, after an opening day 10-1 loss
at Bestwood, things got much worse when free scoring Southbank
put a record 17 past the helpless North Notts goalkeeper in
October. ASB’s Ashley Whitt scoring a double hat-trick, he
would become the Divisions top goalscorer at the end of the
campaign with 31 goals.
With
Bank heading the table going in to Christmas, indifferent form
from Boots Athletic meant that they would already be too far
to realistically challenge the chasing pack with Wollaton
losing only two games in their first 22 games and Keyworth
going well, despite thanks to a good county cup run having
games a plenty in hand.
Three
defeats in a row by Southbank over the festive period meant a
new leader going in to 2006, Wollaton had surpassed the early
season leaders at the half way stage, eight consecutive wins
with goals from Hind, Fragola and Page etc and Wollaton began
to pull away from Arnold Southbank as the spring approached.
February
however, was to start badly for the leaders, in the crunch
game at the top of the table a Johnny Harte goal was enough to
see Southbank beat Wollaton 1-0, a week later Wollaton slipped
again to single goal defeat at Bestwood. ASB however weren’t
to fully capitalize and with the games and points already in
the bag for Wollaton, Southbank’s chasing game fell short at
the start of April when they blanked with keyworth united and
lost to Notts Police Res. Keyworth, could have stopped
Wollaton had they won their final nine games but a heavy task
was never realistic and they stuttered home in the campaign to
be overtook by Kimberley MW who’s impressive late run jumped
them into third.
Last
years Champions Boots ended satisfactory in the top six,
runners up of the year previous Cotgrave also failed to fulfil
their impressive 2004/05 campaign as they ended eighth. The
Division’s draw masters were Linby who levelled 12 of their
32 games, striker Luke Price in eye-catching form, ending on
26 for the season, his best form saw a run of eight goals in
five straight matches. Southbank were the top scorers with 105
league goals, at the other end hats off to Sandhurst Res who
struggled in their first NSL campaign, setting records for the
wrong reasons, they lost 30 of their 32 games with a worst run
of 20 straight defeats conceding 154 goals in total.

SENIOR
DIVISION REVIEW - WOLLATON DO IT AGAIN
The
second ever season of the Nottinghamshire Senior Football
League started and ended as the first with the dominant team
of 2004/05 Wollaton taking the honours for the second
successive year. But whereas Wollaton comfortably wrapped up
the first NSL campaign by Easter with an eventual winning
margin of nine points, this year they were pushed all the way
by the surprise package of the season Clifton, who thanks
largely to an unbeaten run of eighteen games, surpassing
Arnold Southbank’s record from the year previous, pushed the
holders all the way until eventually Wollaton retained their
title thanks to a final game point against another side that
impressed in Attenborough.
The
season’s surprise leaders were Magdala Amateurs who crushed
Ruddington United 5-0 in their opening fixture, new boys
Caribbean Cavaliers after promotion from the MAA opened up
with narrow defeat to Calverton MW, a few days later though
Cav’s were to win their first NSL game against a usually
strong Arnold Southbank, convincingly too, as they eased past
their hosts at ‘the dip’ 4-1. Wollaton however were solid
starters after a narrow opening day win against Clifton, they
trounced Magdala 7-1 a week later and dropped only four points
from a possible 36 in their opening 12 games. Not far behind
Wollaton at the pinnacle of the NSL Senior Division table by
mid November, were Attenborough who after starting
impressively, lost only one of their first fourteen games.
Meanwhile last season’s runners-up, Linby CW were not so
consistent, seven defeats and a draw from their first fourteen
games left them in having a lot to do if they were to reach
the expectations of the campaign before.
Consistency
of another kind at the bottom of the table were the
unfortunate Ruddington United, struggling for players and
fighting to stay in existence, they carried on their terrible
run of form from last season to lose their opening 12 league
games. Totalling a record of 16 league defeats on the trot,
either side of the summer break. Fortunately for Rudd that was
to soon end when new Manager Andy Littlewood was appointed in
November, and with three wins before the New Year, United
looked to be heading once again in the right direction. That
weren’t to be said for fellow strugglers Sandhurst though,
who after two wins in a row early on in November, the club
were to start their worst run in the short period of the
league, which would see them fail to win any of their
remaining 20 league games.
As
the decorations started to come down from the festive period,
Wollaton remained top of the pile and seemingly immortal after
only one league defeat from their first 21 games, Clifton were
starting to bite at the bit after last losing in October, a
ten game unbeaten run was to stretch to 18 by April, before
losing to rivals Attenborough 2-1 at Easter. Also on the form
trail were Cotgrave CW United, starting to turn heads after a
eleventh place finish a year earlier, despite having two
points deducted, only two defeats in eighteen saw them in a
top three place by April.
The
final month of the season saw Wollaton slip their lead of
eleven points to a Clifton side that just wouldn’t lie down.
Only two wins for the leaders in their last eight games meant
that the title went down to the wire, Wollaton needing only a
point but with a depleted squad in their final game of the
season at Attenborough, they were threatened by some
heart wrenching moments at the Strand, but eventually came out
of the game with a goalless draw, ensuring the result of
Clifton’s game with Notts Police three days later was
irrelevant.
Wollaton
leading the pile for the second successive season, helped by
another solid and resolute defence, marshalled by the superb
Dave Savidge, the champions only conceded 23 goals in winning
the title. Clifton’s impressive campaign was largely due to
their superb attacking force, 91 goals largely contributed
from the likes of Chris Waddley, Karl Mitchell and Pete
McCann. Despite Awsworth Villa finding it hard at the wrong
end of the table, summer signing from local rivals Kimberley
MW Julian Wright for the second successive year scored over 30
goals to once again win the golden boot. A record breaking
fifteen goals in ten successive NSL Senior Division matches
further enhanced Wright as one of the top strikers in the
league along with ASB’s Karl Clowery who notched 27, Lee
Penley of Cotgrave who for the second successive year hit the
net 25 times with Steve Oldham jnr impressing for Siemens EWS
with 23. |

TWO
LATE GOALS GIVE CLIFTON THE CUP
Uhlsport
NSL Senior Division runners up Clifton rounded their excellent
season off in style by winning the League Senior Cup, beating
Attenborough 2 - 0 at Calverton MW in front of a healthy
crowd.
After a
bright start with some ferocious tackles flying in from both
sides, the first half was largely forgettable, with little
improvement until tired legs kicked in around the hour mark.
Former Forest youngster Nick Hawkins saw his 40 yard cross cum
shot smack against the Clifton post with Bonser beaten and the
All Whites saw a corner scrambled off the line with strong
appeals for handball turned down by referee Colin White.
With
extra time looming, Craig Anderson hoisted a free kick into
the Boro area, keeper Matt Worster misjudged the flight and
the ball entered the net via the far post. Boro now had no
alternative but to commit bodies forward in search of the
leveller and were caught out at the back as Clifton broke
three on one, Anderson was fouled in the area and picked
himself up to seal a victory from the spot that his side just
deserved on balance of play, although it was tough on Boro
whose Reserves lost by the same score in the Junior Cup to
Boots. Man of the match went to Karl Mitchell of Clifton for
his inventiveness and strong running.
Attenborough: Worster,
Boultby, Green, Kitson, Terry, Bagshaw, Kinsella, Hawkins,

| ARSALI
DOUBLE GIVES BOOTS THE CUP
Two goals from
Turkish striker Ibby Arsali helped Boots Athletic Reserves win
the Junior NSL League Cup 2-0 against holders Attenborough
Reserves at Calverton MW. With Boro missing two of their more
creative players and Boots started brighter in a tense first
half, finally opening the scoring five minutes before the
break with a fine solo goal by Arsali after Lodge had played
him in. Boots top goalscorer Arsali got his and the games
second in the 62nd minute, when Baxter squared for the forward
to slam home. Late pressure from Boro was little to late as
Boots held on to their two goal margin giving them their
second NSL trophy in two seasons, Arsali quite rightly being
awarded the man of the match, despite a fine display also by
his marker Jerzak.
Attenborough Reserves:

Beighton, Taggart, Wylie, Barlow. Subs: Skeates, Taylor.
Boots Athletic Reserves:
Edwards, Chapman, Saunders, Howard, Lodge, Hogg, Bradley,
Bennett, Arsali, Baxter, Saini. Subs: Emery, Campbell,
Mountford, Penhale, Harvey.

MUNROE
QUITS WOLLATON
As
mentioned on the Wollaton website today by mutual consent,
Chris Munroe has stood down as joint 1st team manager after
3yrs in charge. Munroe in commenting stated "that the
change is best for the club, it was a major disappointment for
me when the planning application for floodlights got rejected
for the 2nd time and this was the point I began to feel that
the time was right to part company, however I leave with an
impressive record of 2 NSL championships and 1 league cup
final success and I wish the club continued success for the
future, and I hope they hang onto talented players such as
Smalley, Simpson, Grinion and Dan Smith. Personally after 32
years involved in Saturday football I look forward to a well
earned rest to recharge the batteries after which time I will
consider the future. Munroe would also like to thank the NSL
Committee for their support and thanks for the opportunity to
run the NSL Representative side last season alongside Andy
Miller stating "it was a very enjoyable experience
working with the cream of the NSL".
Wollaton
Chairman Bill Fishwick on Munroe's departure stated "The
Club wish to express their thanks to Chris for his tremendous
contribution to the club and wish him every success for the
future." Andy Benner is to continue in his capacity as
the other half of a management team which will include Paul
Walker who takes over from Munroe in pre-season. |

| whysall
accepts ressie role
Boots Athletic's Club
Captain Mark Whysall has accepted the position as Manager of
The Chemist's Reserves from next season. Current boss Alan
Perks is moving up to jointly run the 1st XI with Wayne Miles
and Whysall was offered the position last week. The only
concern Whysall (who has been with Boots since he started in
men's football back in 1988) had related to his work
commitments, however, having thought about it, he is confident
he can give both but is looking for an assistant to help him.
Veteran defender Paul Williams is one candidate for the role
'This gives us the
continuity we want' said General Manager Dick Durrant 'Mark
knows the Boots methods inside and is extremely popular with
the players as well as having a sound knowledge of the game
and is well connected locally. We like to promote from within
as I have seen too many clubs take a backward step after
appointing someone who brings players in with him then leaves
shortly afterwards taking the nucleus of the side with him.
This appointment will be an excellent one for Boots Athletic
FC and I look forward to seeing Mark pick up where Alan has
left off. Mark has had a bad time with injuries and I am 100%
confident he will be a real success. He has shown trememdous
loyalty to us and this job is a reward for this commitment to
Boots Athletic' |

KEYWORTH
RESERVES WIN JUNIOR CUP FINAL
Keyworth United Reserves
won the Notts FA Saturday Junior Cup by beating fellow
Uhlsport side Bestwood MW 2 - 0 in front of a healthy
crowd of 222 at Carlton Town FC.
Bestwood had the best of
the early exchanges with Danny Gamble getting clear on
goal but his touch let him down and he over ran the
opportunity. Once Alan Jackson's side settled however they
played most of the constructive football, however Welfare
were always a threat from set pieces and long throw ins.
The first goal came in the 35th minute with man of the
match Alex Woolich lost his marker to head home Andy
Webster's driven right wing corner.
The nearest Bestwood
came to a goal was just after the interval with Terry
Walker's corner crashing against the upright with the
rebound scrambled clear before the win was sealed in the
68th minute as John Hyman, whose strong running had been a
feature of Keyworth's attacking play, broke clear down the
middle and slotted coolly home.
On balance of play, few
would dispute Keyworth's right to the trophy, however much
credit is due to Bestwood who kept plugging away right to
the end in a game played in excellent spirit.

RUDDINGTON
APPOINTMENTS CONFIRMED
Ruddington United
have confirmed the appointments of Steve McDermott and Dean
Cuthbert as Manager and Assistant respectively for next
seasons re-admission of their Reserve side. Commenting on the
appointments, first team boss Andy Littlewood told
nottsseniorleague.co.uk "We are very pleased to have been
able to pull off the coup of getting a manager of Steve's
knowledge and experience on board at the club. After spending
part of this season with Magdala Reserves and spending
numerous season's running Sunday teams and playing at a high
level throughout his football career, Steve has all the
attributes the club is looking for and along with Dean I hope
they can contribute to the good work that has been started
this year. I have known Steve for around fifteen years and
very much look forward to working with him and all the players
he brings to the club". Due
to changes at Ruddington, their second team were not admitted
to the Notts Senior League Reserve Division during the 2005/06
season but since Littlewood's arrival before Christmas,
improvements have been significant both on and off the field,
with the club now feeling it is important to have two teams in
the NSL if they are to progress on what has so far been a respectful
first four months of the year where they have lost only four
times during their last twelve league games, leapfrogging
Sandhurst and guaranteeing staying off the position they held
for so long at the foot of the Senior Division table. |

NSL WELCOMES
BASFORD UNITED
The Notts Senior
League has announced that Basford United have been offered
and accepted a place for the 2006/07 season for both their
first and reserve teams.
Formerly of the Notts
Alliance, Basford are currently runaway leaders of the NAA
and finalists in the Notts FA Intermediate and NAA Senior
Cups. Under Manager Martin Soley and Secretary David
Thompson, United have flourished into affluent footballing
side and have a sound base off the field. They will replace
Calverton MW, who will move to the CML from next season.
Ruddington United have also announced plans for a 2nd XI
which will balance both NSL divisions at 18 teams.
Commenting on the
news, NSL Secretary Darrell Parkes said 'All concerned are
delighted with the situation. Basford are an excellent side
with good facilities at Greenwich Avenue and very much a
club on the up. Their inclusion will provide the Notts based
sides in the NSL with another local derby which is one of
the key reasons we were established. Basford are one of the
longest running clubs in the area and we look forward to
working with them going forward'.
The NSL's website had
carried concerns in its Guestbook about security at
Greenwich Avenue as well as dressing room standards, however
Parkes says these have been addressed 'Basford have given
their assurances, as a condition of entry, that they will
have security on the car park from when the first car
arrives until the last one leaves and that the dressing
rooms will be spruced up in time for their NSL debut and we
are happy to take these assurances at face value'.
