LES PARKES
Saturday 26 June 2010
It is with some regret that we announce the death of
Les Parkes, one of local football's best loved characters of the last few decades
Les was a real stalwart of the local game who was probably best known as an
unconventional, 'old school' referee and he'll be fondly remembered by all those who met
him, especially his loving family and son, our very own Darrell Parkes
It's a great gift when, through mere presence, an individual is able to touch the lives of
others. Les was just such a person- daft as a brush but loving, friendly and kind. I for
one will miss the bear hugs we shared for 30 years plus!
Everyone who met Les will be better off for the experience, just as we hope Les is better
off in his final resting place after a long and dignified battle with illness
Even Les Parkes couldn't win that one but Rest In Peace Sir Les- you will be fondly
remembered by those of us lucky enough to have met you
Commiserations to Darrell, Viv, Rachel, Neil and the rest of the Parkes clan but the
pain's over for him now!
