JOE'S
WEEKEND ROUND UP
Sunday
7 March 2010
Clifton are
leading the NSL title race after their 2-0 victory over Kimberley MW
saw them move seven points clear at the top of the table. Top scorer
Michael Evans netted twice to give the all-whites the win and extend
their lead over second placed Basford. They were held to a home draw
in an end to end 3-3 thriller against Boots. Former Wollaton forward
Ash Mcpherson netted twice for Andy Benner’s side, with Lewis
Johnson also netting but the Chemists replied with strikes from Sam
Winch, Wayne Jones and another former Wollaton man Scott Peach to
earn them a draw. Pelican’s title challenge is stuttering as they
suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Caribbean Cavaliers; Tom Simpson and
Michael Grinnion goals giving Cavs their third straight win.
Hucknall Rolls Leisure are the surprise contenders in the title race
this season, and they moved up to third with a home victory over
Linby, who’s miserable form continues. Ash Marshall netted twice
along with a Chay Betteridge strike to give Rolls a 3-0 win and
inflict Linby’s sixth defeat in seven games.
Ruddington
gave themselves hope of avoiding relegation with an excellent 3-1
away win at Keyworth. Lee Sissions and Luke Foster strikes, as well
as an own goal gave Rudd just their third win of the campaign.
Magdala picked up a useful point in their fight to beat the drop, a
Rob Powell goal earning them a draw away at in-form Cotgrave, Lee
Penley having scored for the home side. Jamie Carlton hit a brace
for Wollaton in their 4-1 win over Notts Police, Justin Whatmore and
Tom Lambert also scoring.
Attenborough
and Gedling Southbank advanced into the intermediate cup final after
both recording extra time victories. Nicky Labbatte scored the only
goal for Southbank in their win over Bulwell, after the ninety
minutes had ended 0-0. Attenborough triumphed against Retford in an
eventful thriller of a cup tie. Despite being down to 10 men and 2-0
down at half time, Boro responded brilliantly in the second half to
lead 3-2. In the dying minutes of normal time Retford equalised only
for Boro to snatch the victory in extra time in dramatic
circumstances.
In Division
One, Wollaton Res prevailed in the top of the table clash against
third placed Awsworth Villa, a Franco Labbatte hat-trick helping the
league leaders to a 4-2 win. Second placed Cotgrave Res suffered a
surprise defeat to Sandhurst, Andy Cameron scoring the only goal in
a 1-0 win. Fourth placed Basford Res are still in a good position to
mount a title challenge, and they sent a message out to their rivals
with a 5-1 thrashing of Keyworth Res, James Needham amongst the
scorers. Bottom side Kimberley picked up a great 3-0 win at
Radcliffe Olympic, Martin Austin netting twice. Relegation
candidates Netherfield Albion also secured an excellent away win,
Barnaby, Shannon, Nichols and Anderson strikes giving them a 4-1 win
at Pelican Res. Matrixgrade and Gedling Southbank Res also picked up
wins, Vincent Brown’s strike giving them a 1-0 win over Greenwood
Meadows whilst Southbank beat Boots Res courtesy of Gee, Marchant
and Foster goals. Clifton Res and Arnold Res shared the points in a
3-3 thriller; Clifton unbeaten in six.
Darrell
Green bagged a double for leaders Nottinghamshire in their 4-1 win
over Bulwell Res. Vernon Villa’s fantastic form continued with
their win over Magdala Res, courtesy of the same score-line, Conor
Carter scoring twice. Hucknall Rolls Res moved into third with a 5-0
hammering of Sandhurst Res, Shaw (2), Lathall, Ashurst and Gibson
all scoring. Ruddington Village smashed eight past Bilborough Town
in an 8-2 win whilst Beeston AFC and Underwood Villa each secured
1-0 wins over Newark Flowserve Academy and Linby Res respectively.
Ian Evans and Ben Holloway both netted in Bottesford 2-1 victory
over Cavaliers Res.
