NAA EDGE NSL IN CHARITY
FINAL |
The
Inter League Charity cup was tonight contested by one of last years
finalists the NSL and the NAA. The NSL were expected to win, however
the result was not the walkover many predicted.
To start the evening, NSL official Malc Cassidy had to put his stir
fry on hold at home in order to get some emergency black socks to
the fourth official who had for some reason neglected to bring his
own!
The NSL boys came out the stronger in the first half and for a good
15 minutes totally to charge of the game, coming close with a free
kick as the 15th minute moved past. Then Keyworth player Alex
Woolwich put the ball in the net only for it to be ruled offside.
Not long after another shot whipped past the crossbar and ended up
in number 43's back garden.
The half swung from end to end and the NAA substituted Kev McArdle
for Ashley Burrell. Then they hit Bark's crossbar only to see the
ball scrambled away.. Half time came 0-0.
Out for the second half and within minutes Sandhursts Cliff Clarke
came close, but again only firing over the bar. After countering the
NSL side on the break, the NAA's no 5 David Warden caught onto a
cross from the right wing and planted it firmly past second half
keeper Matt Worster..
The NSL boys spent the next 30 minutes trying to get the equaliser
in vein. With the NAA looking to counter on the break the game swung
from end to end. Gedlings Ash Witt came on for the last 10 to add
some extra fire power and came close on two occasions. One shot
fired over the bar and another hit the bar above keeper Matt
Singletons head, only to be cleared. Full time and the NAA were the
victors.
With the sun blazing, in sharp contrast to the FA Intermediate cups
washout from last week, it made for a great evening. Another comedy
moment brought the evening to a close when the NSL's Darrell Parkes
forgot to honour the officials first and then proceeded to give out
the winners trophy's to the NSL lads, who thought this was great.
Its a good job mascot Louis was on hand to point out the error!!

WEEKEND REVIEW |
| Far from being relegation candidates , Awsworth
Villa completed their season by winning their fifth game in seven
outings- this time against neighbours & rivals Linby C.W. Keiron
Saxton (2) & Luke Henson gave them a 3-2 win. The remarkably
consistent Andy Start & Matt Balm replied. At the bottom end of
the table, Magdala Ams squeezed in by a single Dan Ellis goal
against Ruddington, although they were already safe from relegation.
Underwood Villa missed the chance of closing the gap on second
placed Matrixgrade by
only drawing against Keyworth Utd Res. Steven Froggatt’s goal was
cancelled out by Matt Webster’s. Villa could still catch their
rivals for the runners up spot, but would need 7 points from their
remaining 3 games. Jake Fisher claimed the only hat trick of the day
in Kimberley M. W’s 4-2 win against Awsworth Villa Res. Mark
Stocks added a fourth. Kieran McMarty claimed both the Awsworth
Villa Res goals. Cotgrave Welfare Res are finishing with a flourish.
After scoring 4 in mid week , they added 7 more against Magdala Ams
Res. Danny Murphy (2), Alan Rees(2) , Matt Hallam , Dave Sackeld
& Stuart Marshall were all on the mark with Simon Moore &
Paul Brown replying for Magdala. Basford Res stopped the rot in a
1-1 draw with Bilborough Pelican Res, although it required a goal
from first teamer James Hendry. The equaliser came from Nicky
Labatte. Ibby Arsali helped Boots Res to a much needed win with two
goals. Lee Chapman & the highly promising Greg Watnall completed
the scoring. Sandhurst Res’ only response came from Crawford.
Clifton Res completed their season with a 4-2 defeat by Gedling
Southbank Res who had Mark White(2) , Mark Buckman & Fountain on
the score sheet. |

HUCKNALL ROLL OVER POLICE
IN FINAL |
| Runaway
First Division Champions Hucknall Rolls Leisure edged out Senior
Division outfit Notts Police in the all NSL Intermediate Section
County Cup final at Hucknall Town FC. In a rain soaked game at
Watnall Road, Rolls took a third minute lead through John Greeley
and furthered their advantage through form striker Ashley Marshall
giving them a two goal half time lead.
Dave Raynors half time team talk must have
worked as Police came out of the blocks well. First reducing the
deficit through Collopy, then equalizing through substitute Walker.
As the rain came down and legs ever tiring the game went to extra
time before the dreaded penalty shoot out. Police missing two early
spot kicks with Rolls converting all of theirs for a historical win.
The club have not yet been founded a year and have two trophies
already in their cabinet. Manager Jez Corthorn rightly proud of his
impressive team in its debut campaign. |

WEEKEND REVIEW |
|
The second relegation place from
the Senior Division of the Precision Training NSL will be filled by
Sandhurst as the North Notts’ outfits poor run of just one win in
24 league matches has cost them their top flight status
Mike Wain’s side needed to beat Notts Police at Forest Lane and
hope that results elsewhere went their way if they were to have any
chance of avoiding the trapdoor however it was not to be as two
goals from Dean Fenton and one from Danny Holloway gave Police a
comfortable 3 – 0 win and made it back to back wins ahead of
Wednesday’s Notts Intermediate Cup Final against Hucknall Rolls
Leisure
Magdala will breathe a sigh of relief as their recent form has been
just good enough to see them stay up. Despite going down 5 – 3 at
home to Bilborough Pelican, Dala have done just enough. Steve
Williams (2) and Martin Kearns were the Magdala scorers but Pelican
showed the goal power that has seen them finish third as a Roy
Sharpe treble and singles from Chris Ison and Danny Gunn saw The
Blues home
Boots had an excellent win at Trent Vale Road, completing a double
over runners up Keyworth United with a 4 – 1 win. Gareth Rees gave
The Chemists an early lead from the spot after Richard Cooke
needlessly felled Ibby Arsali. Alex Woolich levelled the scores with
a superbly taken equaliser but second half efforts from youngsters
Jamie Scothern and Greg Whatnall, plus another from veteran Rees
sealed the win for Boots, who can finish fourth if they beat
Cotgrave in midweek
Cotgrave were beaten 4 – 2 at home by Ruddington in a local derby
but Mark Turner’s side can still finish sixth if they win their
remaining games. Brothers Neil and Grant Russell got a goal each for
Rudd with Callum Baker and Shane Blagg rounding things off. Eddie
Draper and Richard Brodski replied for Cotgrave
Kimberley MW concluded their campaign by jumping three places thanks
to an excellent 4 – 1 win over Clifton who finish in the bottom
half after a disappointing end to the season which has seen Kev
Waddley’s side win only one of their final six league games. Danny
Henshaw, Leon Wilson, Leon Roberts and Ryan Doherty were on target
for Welfare, who will be pleased with the way they have finished the
season with winger Karl Mitchell getting the consolation for All
Whites
In Division One, the race to secure runners up is now between NSL
newcomers Underwood Villa and Matrixgrade. Villa secured three
points from a 2 – 0 win at Clifton Res with 44 year veteran Nigel
Beer notching his 19th goal of the season. Ricky Hodgman got
Villa’s other goal. Matrixgrade became only the third side this
season to take points from runaway leaders Hucknall Rolls Leisure in
a 1 – 1 draw. Rolls goal machine Ricky Hodgson made it 29 goals
with Matrixgrade’s leveller coming from an own goal. Rolls now
need to avoid defeat in their final league game to go through the
season without losing
Wollaton Res are in fine form ahead of their league cup final date
with Basford Res. Tony Alvey’s charges have won nine times in ten
outings and show no sign of letting up with a fine 4 – 0 win at
fellow high flyers Gedling Southbank Res their latest positive
result. Williams (2), Marcowski and Hind got Wollaton’s goals
Bilborough Pelican Res are also on a good run and saw off Kimberley
MW Res 3 -1 thanks to Berhame and two from Ricky Sheavills. Basford
Res have struggled since making the final and lost for the sixth
successive game as improving Linby Res came from 2 – 0 down to win
3 – 2
Sol Hissirou got both goals in a much needed win 2 – 1 win for
Boots Res over Magdala Res and Awsworth Res moved out of the bottom
two as Towle and McCarthy scored to give them a 2 – 0 win over
bottom side Sandhurst Res |
